From 1 to 3 July 2022 the Stagnone of Marsala, in Sicily, hosted a great Kitesurf competition in the Freestyle disciplines. The event, hosted by the Stagnone Kiteboarding school, is valid as a leg of the Italian championship belonging to the FIV Federeration and the CWKI class.
The event was held inside the theater of the Marsala Kite Fest, a week of events right in the setting of the stagnone.
Saying Stagnone in Italy and in the world means only one thing: Kitesurfing. And not only thanks to the thousands of passionate kiters who gather every year in this large lagoon with flat water and constant winds in the North East of Sicily. But also for the competitions of the various kitesurfing disciplines which for some years have been regularly hosted in this fantastic Italian natural context.
Competitions open to all and special prizes
The stage was organized by Antonio Gaudini, former athlete, entrepreneur and appreciated kitesurfing promoter in Italy and took place at the Stagnone Kiteboarding school located in the old surf village in the Birgi district.
There were about 30 athletes of national standing who were lucky enough to compete thanks to the ever-present wind in this lagoon, where they were able to hit each other to win one of the 3 national titles.
At the end of the competition, Rizzitello Pierfrancesco, an under 14 Italian-Brazilian who, year after year, surprises us more and more both technically and physically, in third place in the men's open.
Alessio Pintus, a Sardinian rider who can soon start thinking about international competitions, conquers the second position, but Matteo Dorotini, a rider from northern Italy who attends the Laguna dello Stagnone for training, is confirmed on the highest podium.
For the women categories, there have been many podiums for this category where some small ocal riders have been talked about as the already small Zaira Genna who wins the 3rd place in the category under 17 and Chiara Marino instead who conquers the first position in the under 17 and the third in the open category.
Also in the open carter, Balbinot Nais wins the second position instead in first place returned after an injury Piccioni Giulia.
"It is always a thrill to see these athletes have so much passion and dedication for a sport where they represent us both in Italy and in the world," Antonio Gaudini, President of the Italian Kitesurfing Association, tells us. “I think we are on the right track, after a drop in attendance in national competitions, we are finally getting the right reward after two years of work. But the lagoon of the Stagnone is ready for an even bigger event, in fact we are already working to host the European circuit, and if everything goes in the right direction, the Stagnone will soon be the world capital of kitesurfing ”concludes Gaudini.
Thanks go to my co-organizers Gege La Bargera and Fabio Alba for the hard work that has been done for the success of this fantastic event
